THEN - go though the Settings menu on the printer and RESET the Network Card on the Printer. The fix (for me) was to reserve a static address for the printer in my Linksys router's DHCP table. I think my support person does not understand networking as I think the "router" will route the traffic regardless of which "radio" it is using to communicate with the device. Brother said that they only operate on the 2.4 band and that they thought the problem was my PCs were on the 5 band and couldn't talk to the device. Was given several things to try such as configuring IP v6 on the printer and setting a static address on the printer.
Going into the router config, the printer would not show up in the DHCP table even though I could print to it. Restarting the router would let me access the printer again - but it would then show offline after some number of days. Turning off the printer and restarting had no effect. The printer would indicate it was online. My PCs on the network would show it offline after some number of days. I have the Brother MFC-L2740DW printer/scanner connected to a wireless network - Linksys b/g/n.
